Student Novels

November is an inspiring month in Sophomore English at SUCCESS Academy. Students participate in

NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)

and write their own novels in 30 days. The final products are unpolished perfection. As author Rosaline Eves told Sophomore classes, “A draft just has to exist to be perfect.” We invite you to read these novels. Once you have finished a novel, please cast a vote by evaluating the novel. (And then read another one!) Writing a great story is its own reward, but Mrs. Jensen is so proud of the students’ efforts that she is also throwing in a $50 prize for the author with the highest average score. Please read at least TWO stories then fill out the judging form. Happy reading!

The opinions in the student novels are the opinions of the students, and not necessarily those of SUCCESS Academy.

Another Life

By Mallorie Thelin

Rated PG-13 for violence and gore. Trigger warnings: injuries and blood.

“Welcome everybody, to Another Life!” a loud booming voice interrupts my thoughts. “You 16 lucky players have the opportunity to fight for fame, to fight for honor. and to fight for $25000. As you know, you can die 2 times before you go onto your last life. both of those times you will be brought back. You have to be cautious, once you die on your last life, you’re dead. Now a little twist this year, however you die, those scars will forever haunt you. Remember the rules? Here’s a refresher. on your first and second life, you have to be peaceful. but once you are on your last life, you can go after anybody. you can attack whoever you want. those who wronged you, betrayed you, fought you. you can get your revenge. but be careful, once you start fighting, they can fight back. and if you die on your last life, you’re out. dead. gone. Now go! collect materials, make bases, protect yourself! and last of all… Good Luck! and Welcome to Another Life.”

The Boring life of an ordinary girl

By Violet Yorgason

Rated G for Everyone

I’m writing this little autobiography about myself so that y’all can hopefully grow fond of my snarky, awesome, completely realistic take on life character, and aspire to be like me someday ( which is totally attainable) and therefore not be depressed about never having a chance to be like, and live the life of your favorite character. It’s just the story of my life told by me, about me. Feel free to skip to whatever story sounds the funnest.

A dystopian world, far into the distant future. Society mourns after a great war, the grieving war. Over 160 years have gone by since the last shot was fired. Out of the ashes of the remains of the old world, and what remained of companies and corporations, the ministry emerged. Since then, the ministry has taken control and power, suppressing those who speak ill of them. Acting as both the supplier for the consumer, and their judge of law and order. With complete power and decision over the overpopulated cities.

Soldiers Resolve

By Eliza Rice

Rated PG for mild violence

We disembark quickly. As we walk down the dark tunnel towards what will probably be my future I squint. I think I can almost see light at the end of the tunnel. The Commander walks by my side and looks over to me. “Everything will work out.” He quietly says to me. “I hope so.” I softly respond. He slips his hand around mine and holds it tight. His light hair falls across his forehead and he looks seriously at me. “We will rescue them, I promise.” He says, “I have never seen a girl with as much resolve as you. I think I would call it a soldier’s resolve. The best soldiers always have it. Elara, you will be unstoppable.”
